Here is an amazing book for every former child who has ever felt unwanted or not loved or even in the "wrong" family. My favorite Jeanette Winterson quote has always been, "Why is the measure of love loss?" from "Written on the Body", but this memoir incorporates and expands on those feelings, giving us a complex many-layered look into her life process. I am grateful for her honesty and her ability to hold onto conflicting and opposite feelings simultaneously.

This is the most recent of a short series of mysteries for young adults, with the much younger sister of Sherlock Holmes as detective/heroine. She is a resourceful, plucky, and independent young woman who is also very human and a remarkable problem solver. This is a fun and entertaining series, highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Sherlock Holmes spin-offs.
This is a great story about surviving in a difficult and painful time. It has historical relevance but also a lot to say about the connections we make with each other and how important they are.

Lovely story told in a series of letters, in the days before email and texting. Read it before the movie is released! The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
