Paper Towns by John Green
Paper Towns

Sara Woolcock, July 19, 2009

There is nothing better than reading a great book written by a good friend, and that is the experience I have every time I read a book by John Green. Also famous for a youtube video blog done with his brother Hank (, John Green has allowed the many followers of the vlogbrothers (affectionatley called nerdfighters) to get to know him and his brother as good friends with their hilarious takes on the news, Hank's music weekly songs, or blenderized Happy Meal punishments. Besides all his youtube work, John Green still has time to write a brilliant novel. With many of the themes of the Great Gatsby and a teenage boy protagonist, this book asks teenagers to do what many young adult authors fail to accomplish: it asks them to imagine the world more complexly, to look beyond the "Paper Towns" surface of the world. It was one of the most enjoyable reads that also had a deep plot that begged to be examed beyond the surface. I have read it again and again. Definatley worth the seventeen dollars to get the hardcover.
