Rules of the Wild: A Novel of Africa by Francesca Marciano
Rules of the Wild: A Novel of Africa

Sarajean, January 3, 2010

I loved this book and I hope that author Francesca Marciano continues to write. This book is such a beautiful meditation on where we belong and the rules of such a place. I completely understand and can relate with the characters love/hate relationship with Kenya. I think it happens to anyone who has sought out to find that special place in the world in which to live. A gorgeous novel and an author to watch.

Brazzaville Beach by William Boyd
Brazzaville Beach

Sarajean, January 3, 2010

Brilliant! One of my favorite books. William Boyd is a master storyteller and so clever. We are - after all-so similar to Primates. This is a great book selection for book clubs that think outside the "Oprah box" and "chic lit". Enjoy!

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism by Naomi Klein
The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism

Sarajean, January 1, 2010

Hands down the best book of the decade. I read this book before the economic crisis began and therefore was not shocked at the actions the Government took. Naomi Klein is brilliant! This book should be required reading for everyone.
