If you're interested in understanding the development of oil sands and want an overview that presents factual information about how it impacts energy policy (in Canada and the United States) and globalization, you should read this book. It provides valuable information about the technology itself and economic, social and environmental consequences. As a scholar undertaking study of this industry and its impacts on the economy and politics in the United States, I discovered early on that finding information about oil sands development is not easy. Maps of pipeline systems in existence and proposed were one of the most valuable contributions of this book. I continue to refer to them as I further investigate this industry.
