Books Make a Home: Elegant Ideas for Storing and Displaying Books by Damian Thompson
Books Make a Home: Elegant Ideas for Storing and Displaying Books

Sue Poucher, January 20, 2012

When I saw this on the shelf, I had to have it. What bibliophile would not want it? After all, it contains pictures of books in their native spaces, our homes. The ideas are equally matched by wonderful photographs that illustrate the imaginations of booklovers everywhere. The book covers books as art, books as décor, books as reading material, and, of course, books as collections, all placed properly in every space of the house. Indeed it contains something for nearly everyone who has ever thought about books. With all of the wonderful books and shelving ideas I figured I would need to have several homes, just to be able to display my books in all of the fascinating ways I saw. I found the text as wonderful as the photographs. The authors understanding of the needs of bibliophiles as well as readers, is marvelous. He also offers many practical options to those who wish to create their own version of the “perfect” library. I recommend this book to everyone who has ever handled a book.

Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us by Daniel H. Pink
Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us

Sue Poucher, January 25, 2011

Not only is Daniel H. Pink a great writer, who keeps you reading until the appendix ends, he is also able to pull together lots of boring information and put it together in a way that makes sense. Pink uses his connect-the-dot ability to help regular folks like me to see what really motivates us. Unfortunately, it seems that those who run the large corporations and government bureaucracies are determined to ignore the reality of these findings. So it is up to us and the more enlightened groups that Pink talks about, to use this information to create a world where we can all be more creative. When we are motivated from within, not from threats by the boss, what a different world we will live in.

Refuse to Choose!: A Revolutionary Program for Doing Everything That You Love by Barbara Sher
Refuse to Choose!: A Revolutionary Program for Doing Everything That You Love

Sue Poucher, July 3, 2010

This book has changed my life. And I say that without fear of any contradiction. What amazing tools Barbara Sher has brought to light for those of us who just can't settle for one career, life, place to live, etc. I have started using just the first tool, which she calls the Scanner Daybook. I am using it to record all of the ideas for projects or inventions or careers, or anything else that is of interest to me. In the past I would usually write them on a loose sheet of any kind of paper that was handy, but now they are all in one place and I can find them when I am ready to use them. It is so freeing to not have the guilt about not doing something with it now and then worrying about finding it later if/or when I wanted to pursue it further. The power of just getting all of the information down in one place when the idea first strikes cannot be over estimated. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a way to structure their life so that they never have to choose to not do some thing ever again.
