True Hallucinations: Being an Account of the Author's Extraordinary Adventures in the Devil's Paradis by Terence Mckenna
True Hallucinations: Being an Account of the Author's Extraordinary Adventures in the Devil's Paradis

Suzanne Vilmain, August 4, 2012

This is the best anti-serum to Carl Jung's Red Book! McKenna takes you on the adventure of mind-altering plants that deliver you to the same consciousness that Jung so desperately tried to draw down in his Red Book! Sad really, to realize how steeped in his own beliefs Jung actually was..... so much unrequited searching!

Weight (Myths) by Jeanette Winterson
Weight (Myths)

Suzanne Vilmain, January 1, 2011

WEIGHT - the retelling of the myth of Atlas and Heracles - "reminds us what it means to be human".
Winterson opens with: "Choice of subject, like choice of lover is an intimate decision."

Five years old, yet as relevant now as our public discussion on choice of life/health-style while waiting in line to co-pay our "medicine/care".

I read this book like truth-serum on steroids dressed greek -- "The free man never thinks of escape.

Exploring paradox and dicotomy while re-telling meaning with burdens & boundaries, loneliness and freedoms.

The ending begs: "Why not just put it down?" and the reader is left to discern:
"who do we put down?" or paradoxically "why don't we put ourselves down?"
