The Blue Sweater: Bridging the Gap Between Rich and Poor in an Interconnected World by Jacqueline Novogratz
The Blue Sweater: Bridging the Gap Between Rich and Poor in an Interconnected World

TARI DONOHUE, February 16, 2011

The first thing you learn while reading this story is how interconnected we all are. Jacquelin tells us her own story of learning what the poor in other cultures really need from us - their sisters and brothers - and it isn't charity.

In her career as an international banker in charge of starting lending programs in Rwanda, Kenya and India, she tried, she failed, she tried again; and with each experience she recounts how much she came to admire the strength of spirit the people of Africa and India had in destitute and sometimes horrific circumstances.

For those of us truly interested in learning about social enterprise and what it can do to level the playing field of survival and lifestyle, this book is a must-read.

The Road (Random House Movie Tie-In Books) by Cormac Mccarthy

The use of words - and lack of words - to leave space open to paint a picture, convey a meaning. I so enjoyed the poetic phrasing of this story.
