Lucia Perillo: IMG The Polymorph's Perversity

It should not be so hard to write both poetry and fiction. Both arts, after all, make use of the same materials, words and punctuation. Poems... Continue »

The Bottom of the Sky by William C Pack
The Bottom of the Sky

TaraLee, January 28, 2012

What an amazing book, especially when you consider this is Mr. Pack's FIRST novel!

The clarity in his descriptions from the beauty of the mountains surrounding Roundup, MT to describing the customers and interior of "The Dead Animal Zoo" allow you to be "right there". This is better than 3D!

The Bottom of the Sky is a tale based on life in a small town in Montana featuring family dynamics (and later career dynamics) that you won't believe until you read about it.

This is a story of triumph over failure, good vs. evil (in several forms)and how greed destroys too many lives.

I could write a 5 page review of this book easily, but hope that I've given you just enough to make you purchase and read this book. You won't be disappointed!

Warnings: 1. Read this when you have a day free because it is impossible to put down.
2. Have Kleenex handy.

As "we" Montanans say, "Bill you've done well - We are so proud of you!"

The Bottom of the Sky by William C Pack
The Bottom of the Sky

Reading "The Bottom of the Sky" is the literary equivalent of the autobahn. You begin at Zero and soon your emotions, thoughts and everything you THOUGHT you knew are speeding by at 175 MPH. (Or perhaps I should say 241.40 KPH)

The prose that Mr. Pack uses places you inside the scenes. You become Levi, Lam, their Mother, Virginia, their Father, Frank or one of the other numerous characters. You are part of the book and what is going on whether you like it or not.

Warning: Once you begin reading this book everything in your "Real" life fades away. It is one of those very few books that will hold your attention and it takes a lot of strength to put it down before you are completely through reading it.

Tears slide down your cheeks no matter how hard you tell yourself that you aren't going to cry. You cringe as you read of another act of abuse (physical or mental). Past wounds will fester once again - Some will heal, others will take a little while longer to "Scab over" again.

Mr. Pack deserved a Pulitzer for this book. I can't wait to see what his second novel is like!

Bill, as we Montanans say, "You Done Well!" We are so proud of you!
