A very good book to learn about the women in colonial America up to the Revolutionary War. The trials and tribulations. The 'givens' on what women were able to do or not able to do, also those who defied those given rules of gender. The stories are from black and white, rich and poor, slave and indentured.
A fascinatingly written book where you might think where the pages would turn but then there is another kink that would throw you off. There you start thinking wait a minute... A must read.

It is a pretty good book, taking excerpts from Story of a Soul and Last Conversations on a wide variety of subjects in which she writes about or quoted on. Includes bible passages in which she talks about and also prayers that seem suited for what she had written about.
Norman Cantor writes about the the Black Plague with great detail. Describing the spread and the consequences of the socio economic devastation of the poorer classes that took a third of Europeans in the 14th Century. Also, theories of how some present day people are possibly immune to Aids from their ancestors who survived this plague, and how Ring a Ring o' Roses, a pocket full of posies has a different connotation once you have read this book.

If you have ever were curious about infectious diseases, you will be interested in this. The book is based on the 1918 influenza epidemic, that seemed to have no end because it seemed to be misdiagnosed in so many people. It was hard hit among the young and old but also spread through soldiers during WWI. Seemed to spread through troop movement and when soldiers came back home. It tended to get a little repetitive in the last 100 pages but still a good read.
