Harrowing, but well worth the pain. One of few modern books I believe will be thought of as great literature in years to come. One might fairly call this book "life changing."
Amazing story. Loved the characters, with all their flaws. Adored the beautiful use of language--multiple languages, used poetically, humorously, sometimes excruciatingly. Even loved the politically incorrect but truly happy ending.
Interesting premise, juvenile execution. Grammatical and word choice errors annoying. Important characters (e.g. ghostly stepfather, wicked granny) never developed. Unrealistic crime, unrealistic investigation, unrealistic aftermath. Does not even attempt to describe the trial. Switcheroo of an ending. Excessive talk about violence, drugs, sex, and alcohol does not make this into a grown-up story.

Slugs by David Greenberg and Victoria Chess
The Book Fairy, March 31, 2007
No, it isn't great literature. But my children LOVE this book. They enjoy the crazy things done to the slugs--and shudder at the slugs' revenge.(11 of 18 readers found this comment helpful)
