Too long have we lingered among the elves, orcs and fairies of Tolkien-esque fantasy. THIS is what a modern fantasy novel should be; imaginative, compelling, and irresistible.
Don't let the young protagonist deter you either, adults, this one is a strong contender. You will find enough content to engage you.
The hardback version is heavy, filled with paintings that the author himself created. The illustrations are fantastic and colourful, well rendered and interesting. I found myself going back to them over and over again, and I often found new aspects I had overlooked.
