Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
Into the Wild

Thomas L, October 18, 2013

Rarely do I ever go out there to roam in the wilderness, but even if I do, there is probably some form of civilization about a mile away and with plenty of survival equipment. Chris from the memoir however goes all the way and leave all society to live in the Alaskan territory with only weapons and some rice. He not only left all of his possessions, but also most of his equipment as well. He just wanted to live on his own and by his own work. "'Hey, I'm goin' to get on up there, live off the land, go claim me a piece of the good life (4).'"
The story of Chris McCandless reminds me of another book I read in the past called Robinson Crusoe. Unlike Chris though he finds himself stranded on an island after a shipwreck by himself. Like Chris he had to survive using his own wit and cunningness such as they both needed to hunt the wildlife around the parts to survive. Although Robinson Crusoe concentrated on his entire seclusion, Into the Wild goes in more depth on those Chris meets on his journey.
This book is indeed an excellent story. People who enjoy reading about an inspiring story of someone who sacrificed his regular life to follow his dreams would like this book.
