The Pilates Body Kit
The Pilates Body Kit

VGraessle, September 9, 2007

BROOKE SILER'S Pilates Body Kit is perfect for the Pilates enthusiast.
"The Pilates Body Kit" presents challanges to Pilates enthusiasts via three types of learning aids: Seventy Flash Cards, two CDs and the Workbook. The Flash Cards are designed to use as a reference as well as a teaching tool. They explain each excercise, starting with "The Hundred." Ms. Siler uses photographs of how the workout should be performed and what common mistakes to avoid. The Flash Cards cover a thirty-minute Pilates workout. The two CDs address the same Pilates routine presented by the Flash Cards. The CDs are excellent musical accompaniment to the workout and Ms. Siler's voice commands are enjoyable to hear and easy to follow. Her Workbook explains how to use the Flash Cards, how the CDs are organized and how best to use Workbook. If you like Pilates, Brooke Siler's "The Pilates Body Kit" should benefit you in many ways. If you decide to use her kit, the results will quickly speak for themselves!

Pirates: Predators of the Seas: An Illustrated History by Angus Konstam
Pirates: Predators of the Seas: An Illustrated History

VGraessle, September 6, 2007

Pirates: Predators of the Seas: An Illustrated History by Angus Konstam is not only a beautiful book (it could easily sit on one's coffee table) with illustrations depicting various ideas and themes addressed in each chapter, it is also a comprehensive history of pirates. Mr. Konstam traces the story of these maritime outlaws from ancient to modern times. He also explains the different terms used for "predators" over the centuries, e.g., pirates, corsairs, bucaneers (to mention just a few).
One fact I found fascinating is that criminals using the ocean to make their livings have existed since the first
days of merchants traveling by sea and continue to seek their illegally-gotten gains into the twenty-first century.
Pirates: Predators of the Seas: An Illustrated History, is a riveting
account of pirates which I highly recommend to novices as well as
the experienced in this fascinating subject.
