This is one of the greatest fictional portrayals of military life and training ever written. As a serving officer of twenty years experience, I have recommended "Starship Troopers" to many colleagues and subordinates, and every one of them has returned the book with the comment that "this is what the military SHOULD be." As a portrayal of the motivations and ideals of the average service member in a sci-fi setting, it is unmatched.
