The Splendid Table's How to Eat Supper: Recipes, Stories, and Opinions from Public Radio's Award-Winning Food Show

West Linn Reader, February 3, 2009

My wife begged me for this book for Valentine's Day, and I'm happy to oblige. I merely typed in "Lynn" in Powell's search engine, and it was the first one to come up. I can't wait to give it to her.

What Is the What by Dave Eggers
What Is the What

West Linn Reader, August 18, 2008

This is one of the best books I have ever read, and I read all the time. Unforgetable. It haunts me even now, and it's been half a year (and many books) in between.

Lardner: Selected Stories (Penguin Twentieth-Century Classics)

West Linn Reader, June 6, 2007

If you can get hold of a Ring Lardner story called "Old Folks' Christmas" (sometimes written as "Old Folks' Xmas") be sure to read it. It's delightful.

A Spot of Bother: A Novel by Mark Haddon
A Spot of Bother: A Novel

West Linn Reader, March 25, 2007

"The Curious Incident..." is one of the best books I've ever read; this one was a bit of a disappointment, although it was enjoyable. Maybe I was just expecting too much. This one is funny and tragic at the same time; it is not as compelling as "The Curious Incident." Read it--as long as you're not expecting a repeat experience after you have read the first one.
