This is one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read. I shouldn't have waited 60 years to read it, and neither should you.

I listened to this book several times while I was traveling. Having been raised by a woman like Abilene, whose life I knew little about, the stories were both difficult and compelling to hear. I'm thankful this book was written.
