The book is very interesting. Most books regarding Yosemite history and Hetch Hetchy seldom mention the Indians of Yosemite who were the Mono Lake Paiutes. The story of Hetch Hetchy always starts with the first non-Indians talking about the dam, yet the Indians are seldom written about.
I would hope that authors would include that in their books.

This book is the best account of "first contact". This book clearifies that the original Indians of Yosemite were Mono Paiutes and not Miwoks like the Yosemite National Park has been telling people. That is why if you are interesting in the history of Yosemite get the orinigal book.
The original book has how Chief Tenaya was a really the founder of the Paiute colony of Ahwahnee, that he spoke Paiute, that the Mono Paiutes considered Tenaya and his band one of their own, that the Miwoks were really afraid of Chief Tenaya and his band and more.
It is a great historical account and for the real story of the Indians of Yosemite people this is the one and only book that needs to be read.
