The Venus Week: Discover the Powerful Secret of Your Cycle by Rebecca Booth
The Venus Week: Discover the Powerful Secret of Your Cycle

addicus, May 26, 2008

This is a remarkable book in every way. In the first place, eventhough I am a man, the title piqued my curiosity. What is the "powerful secret" women carry with regard to their cycles? I've known that women hold secrets that men cannot access. Perhaps I could peak behind the curtain and learn something of these secrets.

To my surprise, the book was fascinating and deeply enlightening. Written in a very accessible style, yet backed with substantial research and academic support, The Venus Week delivered well beyond my expectations. It describes, in positive terms, what I had mostly held to be one of the "negatives" that women have to deal with -- their hormones.

It was as if Dr. Booth was sitting across the table from me making sense of things I had observed, with confusion and some consternation, over many years of trying to "get" women. She was helping me to understand my wife: grasp the hormonal seas that she navigates each month, marvel at her ability to balance all that is happening inside her, and understand ways that I can contribute to her health (and sanity).

Though there is much that I'm sure I have missed in the book, The Venus Week has given me a whole new appreciation for the marvellous strength and beauty of women. I would recommend it to every man who wants to understand the women in his life; not only from a biological perspective, but a psychological and, in some ways spritual, as well.
