Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick
Wonderstruck

I read this and The Invention of Hugo Cabret this year and loved them. I'm having a hard time putting how I feel about these books into words without sounding silly or cliched, but the basics are that he is an wonderful illustrator and storyteller and that I find his form - a combination of traditional prose and wordless illustrations - original and compelling.

Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard
Pilgrim at Tinker Creek

After meaning to read this for years, I ended up reading 2/3 when I had lots of time over the summer and then taking a break when I realized it was not a book I wanted to read in tiny snippets before bed. It is truly gorgeous - her wonderful language and descriptions and the deep connections she develops with her subject matter are really inspiring. I feel like this is one of those books that I'll read every few years, coming out each time with new ideas and a renewed awareness of the world around me. I know this review is mushy and I don't care. I loved this book.
