ALIEN is my favorite film of ALL TIME!! Includes all 4 films and this set has all the bonus material you could ever want (except a commentary by Alien 3 director David Fincher). Must have for any Sci-Fi/Horror fan.

I am a big fan of the film. I even went to see it three times when it was in theaters, but don't buy the single disc DVD. If you want the most out of your TV, Blu-Ray player and the best movie experience I would recommend the Extended 3-Disc Blu-Ray Set. It is full of bonus features and has three different versions of the film. I gave this a 3-star review because the bare-bones DVD release isn't extended, isn't as clear as Blu-Ray and has no bonus material.

The Art of Avatar: James Cameron's Epic Adventure by Lisa Fitzpatrick
The Art of Avatar: James Cameron's Epic Adventure

I love art books and i love Avatar but this book is way too short and the images that were used weren't as good as the ones that I know they could have added but they didn't. For a 3 hour long movie(and one that was more than a decade in the making) you would expect much more than what is offered here. All in all it seemed rushed and should have been at least twice the length.

James Cameron's Avatar 3D Collectors Vault by Whitman Publishing (cor)
James Cameron's Avatar 3D Collectors Vault

This is a fun book. It is chock full of goodies like stickers, posters, playing cards and a sweet pair of plastic 3-D glasses (not the crappy paper kind). The 3-D images are beautiful to look at and the packaging is neat as well. Now the downsides. The book is a bit shorter than one would hope for and it seemed a little childish (but what can you expect from a 3-D book with stickers, etc.). I also would have liked the glasses to have been blue and branded with the Avatar logo (because I collect 3-D glasses and these are not very special). And the last complaint is that outer case that holds the book and glasses gets scratched EXTREMELY easy. Before I even bought it it was full of scratches. I paid around $20 for this book (because the book store was closing) and that seems a fair price. $50 is WAY too much.

The Complete X-Files: Behind the Series, the Myths, and the Movies by Matt Hurwitz
The Complete X-Files: Behind the Series, the Myths, and the Movies

alienxphile, August 14, 2011

I am a HUGE X-Files fan, however while this book is beautiful and informative it seems rushed and somewhat unfinished. There are multiple typos, incorrect information and could have used more photos from the series and behind the scenes. If it weren't for these silly mistakes I would have given the book 5 stars. This, however, is the most complete X-Files book I have seen and would recommend it to any X-Files fan, but you might want to wait and buy it used or wait until the $50 price tag goes down.
