This story is fantastic. Not only are you in the midst of the ideas and movements taking shape and place in Warsaw (and Europe) on the eve of the invasion, but you are immersed in a literary adventure and love story like none other. Singer's style is rich with such different flavors of philosophy, religion, and revolution that the story stays with you long after it is over. A great work of historical fiction.
