Humanity's Fire #01: Seeds of Earth by Michael Cobley
Humanity's Fire #01: Seeds of Earth

analogbaroque, February 12, 2014

This book is great space opera on a truly Epic Scale. In the future earth is under attack and faces obliteration so we quickly send out three colony ships to different parts of the galaxy. Fast forward 150 years to find out earth actually survived and one of the colony ships landed on a soon to be hotly contested planet that is home to an ancient race.

This book has it all: weird aliens, very cool tech, and stellar new ideas and concepts about how the universe works. Cobley's imagination keeps stunning the reader throughout but never at the sake of character or plot.

Highly recommended to readers of Iain Banks or David Brin.

Flex Mentallo: Man of Muscle Mystery Deluxe by Grant Morrison
Flex Mentallo: Man of Muscle Mystery Deluxe

analogbaroque, December 24, 2012

This book is amazing! It's been out of print since it's original publication as a four-issue mini-series in 1996, so this collection with bonus material is a Morrison/Quitely fans dream-come-true. The artwork is a highly stylized, clean yet detailed, cartoonish tour-de-force in which the characters seem to inhabit and move through three-dimensional space, even though it's ink on paper.
And the story is a wonderful examination of our relationship to fiction and reality.
Surreal, beautiful weird & wonderful, this book is not to be missed!
