I read this book as a little girl, back in the late 40's or early 50's. The individual characters and basic story are still fresh today in my mind, when not much else is. This was a delightful story of a boy's yearning for a hunting dog, his coming into young manhood and introduction to the conflicts men face(d) between being a man of the woods and responding to the call of the heart. A wonderful read!!
