Peak by Roland Smith
Peak

bfalk082696, June 9, 2010

The book Peak tells of a boy with a drive for climbing. Peak is a boy living in New York City with his divorced mother. When he is caught climbing a skyscraper he is sent to live with his father of the other side of the world. There his father plans to have him scale the highest mountain in the world. A variety of ideas keep you thinking throughout the book. Just because this book is climbing based you don't have know anything about climbing. There are family struggles, tough decisions, and other things that keep you entertained throughout. The way Roland Smith adds a little bit of every genre and idea into this story makes it even better. This book is a must read for anyone who enjoys a book full of ideas.

The Book of Three (Chronicles of Prydain #1) by Lloyd Alexander
The Book of Three (Chronicles of Prydain #1)

The Book of Three combines the elements of adventure and fantasy into one journey that transforms the characters involved. This is a common hero and villain book, in which the villain must be defeated. The concepts in this book are not advanced, and can be grasped by any level reader. The Lord of the Rings series compares to this book because in both the main character is on a adventure to defeat evil. Taran is the main character in this book, and his companions are Eilonwy, Gurgi, and Fflewddur. I found this story simple and lacking themes at times."Taran finds himself fighting so that good may triumph over evil," that tells you whats going to happen during the course of the book. Its plot has been over used and does not hold your attention for long. Overall this book is very simple and is not very good, unless you enjoy the fantasy genre.

Elephant Run by Roland Smith
Elephant Run

bfalk082696, June 8, 2010

We all know about the major events of World War Two but this story tells of a battle far different in both strategy and climate. Nick is sent to live with his father in Burma after the bombing of his apartment in England. But Burma might not be as safe as his mother had expected. The themes in this book are plentiful and is made for a advanced reader. It incorporates adventure with family emotions and secrets that keeps you thoroughly entertained. It teaches about the effect the war had on the world while teaching about a jungle full of life. The suspense never ends with the stakes rising every second. I feel the lesson in this story is to never let your spirit die because it is the thing one that can pull you through tough times. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a action packed story.
