Kozek doesn't mince words or waste space. She loads you onto a fast moving locomotive, drops you off in a dark and dirty place, and manages to bring you out with just a few nasty stains. This is noir-plus. There are unexpected moments when the author pushes beyond the genre into literature, brilliantly manipulating the classic monosyllabic language. The result is raw, unsettling, perverse, and totally irresistible. I sat down to read it and didn't get up till I was finished. I've got a message for the author: Give me more.
