Night by Elie Wiesel
Night

book.lover, November 17, 2007

'Night' is a moving book by a Holocaust survivor. Elie Wiesel was just a young teenager when he and his family were taken away to concentration camp. His story tells of his struggles to live in such harsh, brutal, horrible conditions, under brash treatment. He was one of the few fortunate ones to survive, and his book has gone on to change the lives of millions.

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

book.lover, November 17, 2007

'The Diary of Anne Frank' is the story of a Jewish teenage girl during WWII. Anne received the diary for her birthday one year and proceeds to write in it fairly regularly as time progresses. It tells of life when the Jews were first starting to be harassed, and eventually she tells of going into hiding from the Gestapo. Anne is just like every other young teenage girl around the world, no matter what era she grew up in. The only difference is she happened to grow up a Jew during WWII, and that led to her eventually going to a concentration camp & dying. She was just 15.

Every young girl will hopefully appreciate this book for what it is: a simple diary kept by a simple, average, yet courageous & heroic girl.

What girls learn :a novel
What girls learn :a novel

book.lover, November 17, 2007

One of my favorite books since high school. Karin Cook's 'What Girls Learn' tells the story of Tilden, a 12 year old girl with a sister, Elizabeth, who is just one year younger. When Tilden's mother uproots the family & moves them to New York to be with her new boyfriend, Tilden's world as she knows it is turned upside down. Aside from dealing with starting at a new school, making new friends, her wilder-everyday sister, a growing interest in boys, body changes, puberty, Tilden then has to deal with the shocking revelation that her mother has breast cancer.

A heart-warming, heart-wrenching novel, I highly recommend it to every mother and daughter.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing

book.lover, November 17, 2007

Every little kid, boy OR girl, is bound to love the Peter & Fudge series. They tell what it's like to be a young boy trying to grow up, have friends AND deal with a younger brother who seems like he's trying to ruin his life! I very highly recommend this book!

Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume
Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret

book.lover, November 17, 2007

'Are you there, God? It's me, Margaret.' is a GREAT book for any young girl to read. It was written long before I was born, but even by the time I reached my pre-teens, this book was still relevant. It's sure to help any young girl feel like she's not alone in the world & that ALL girls go through the exact same thing, no matter what era they grew up in.
