The Rook by Daniel O'Malley
The Rook

booksforbones, October 25, 2014

It's rare that I find a book that fits so squarely into my "ideal"! Lots of adventure, wit, fantasy, and mystery in a tidy little package. The writing is clever without being exhausting and the plot is admirably refreshing. I'm very much looking forward to the sequel in 2015!

The Ghosts of Belfast by Stuart Neville
The Ghosts of Belfast

booksforbones, April 2, 2013

Much as the ghosts (Or are they hallucinations? You'll be guessing until the very end!) fill our protagonist's mind, Neville's characters will stay with you long after you've turned the last page. For all it's violence and desperation, this is a beautiful book exploring the complications of the human spirit.

Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley
Shadowy Horses

Another great escape from Susanna Kearsley! Admittedly, I've a soft spot for the locale (Scotland) and the setting (an archaeological dig), but, even more than that, Kearsley has a knack for making her characters come alive.

One of my favorite book series, and this title didn't disappoint!
