I started and finished A Sense of Direction in one evening; I couldn't really stop thinking about it, so I couldn't put it down. I found it...

I could not put this book down! Shenk has managed to write an inspiring account of an important persons affliction, one whic is shared by millions of Americans right now. The work is insightful, engaging, and uplifting. It has helped me to reframe my own struggle with depressive illness, and I take great inspiration from President Lincoln's honesty, tenacity, eloquence, and in his understanding that he just had to keep carrying on despite his melancholy to reach goals he set for himself, goals that we now know remain so noble.

Anyone who is a teenage boy or the parent of one should read this book! It is amazing. I read it in 6 hours. A deeply heartrending look into the workings of teenage dark thought processes and family communication of expectations and the play between arrested communication and impact of attempted self destruction due to emotional pain. The emotional lives of young men are just as worthy of study and novels and art as is any other young adult topic.
A must must MUST for parents of sesitive youth and those youth themselves. You woulnd't think it possible, but a very uplifting, hopeful voice is communicated in this book.

This is a girl many can relate to, this laconic, mourning girl, who has happened into a possible bonus rare book that comes into her realm via a midget (!) and a strong arm man who demands it back. Semi-bad craziness from most characters and some violence (all in keeping within the plot) happens . All in all a quick and amusing litttle ride. I'd cast the daughter from Six Feet Under as the heroine, Jill. She has the potential to exude the appropriate level of angst.
READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
