The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
The Dog Stars

catdaddytexas, January 1, 2013

An unusual grammatical style helps deliver a tale of one lonely individual who has survived into a post-apocalyptic world. A very personal story of one man trying to make his way in a depopulated world in which many of the few humans who remain are predatory in nature. I got caught up in the story very quickly, and felt the pain of the main character's losses along the way. The occasional action sequences are well told. A very good read.

Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi
Ship Breaker

catdaddytexas, August 4, 2012

Bacigalupi has created a fascinating--and plausible--near future world where climate change has raised the sea levels, oil is no longer the dominant fuel, and the gap between the "haves" and the "have-nots" has become a chasm. Engaging characters--especially the genetically-created "dogman", Tool--and a quest for escape and freedom from a life w/little future culminate in a fulfilling read.

11/22/63 by Stephen King

catdaddytexas, January 1, 2012

The best Stephen King read for me since "It". When Stephen King returns to the late fifties/early sixties in a story, he takes me along back to my childhood. An engaging adventure and a romance for the ages, although it has a bittersweet ending.
