The Wood Wife by Terri Windling
The Wood Wife

I usually find typical fiction to be quite boring, if from a woman's pov, it typically involves the drama of a relationship and feels like I am reading a soap opera. No so with this book! It beautifully intertwines the story of a woman who seeks out a new life in the SW desert with animal mysticism reminiscent of Native American mythology. From the first page I was entranced by life in this foreign environment and hungry for explanation of all of the phenomena, I was pleasantly rewarded in the end. To top it off this book is a quick read (because you won't want to put it down!), no words are wasted.

Fantastic book! Intertwines the complex relationships between people, who can sometimes be nuts, and the plants that may drive them nuts. Blooming botanists should also check out Orchid Fever: A Horticultural Tale of Love, Lust and Lunacy by Eric Hansen.
