It's not often that I come upon a book that I enjoy as much as my twelve year old daughter does. This book was a rare exception! The writing style is very accessible and makes for a quick read that leaves the reader wanting more.
As a forty-something I appreciated the cultural nuances of this coming of age tale set in the seventies. My daughter enjoyed the relationships between Smokey, the pony and the three children.
The characters are all so likable. It's easy to root for them throughout the triumph and heartache of the story.
