The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Bantam Classics) by Victor Hugo
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Bantam Classics)

crvalencia1, August 9, 2007

There is nothing so timeless as the classics. Be they in art, literature, music or even something as sublime as architecture.
Victor Hugo's masterpiece went well beyond the obvious, with it's courage and intrigue. In Quasimodo he created the quintessetial character of pathos. His courage to risk everything, including his life, for that which he instinctively knows he can never have, can be seen in such stories as the modern classic "King Kong" and even today's comic book hero "Batman".
The essential here is that, that there is nothing as intriguing or lasting as the written word and in todays movie oriented, "get it now", society, Victor Hugo's immortal classic "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", offers its readers a respite, a haven if you will, from the stress of everday living. It gives the reader a chance to connect to another time, another place and perhaps in so doing, a chance to connect to onesself.
