A Town Like Alice (Vintage International) by Nevil Shute
A Town Like Alice (Vintage International)

cuillin, August 4, 2012

Here is a book that has been around for a while but is as timely now as when it was written. This is a story of love and faith but most of all patience. The characters are sympathetic, brave, kind and generous. The story unfolds when an British lawyer is asked to administer the will of a man who left a legacy to his niece. The niece, a survivor of a WWII Japanese prison camp, has a dream. The inheritance allows her to embark on a journey into the past as well as a plan for her future.

Brooks is able to create a visual image of the landscape in addition to developing a character that is authentic. This is a good read
