through a series of vignettes a serious and intimate relation between mothers, daughters, friends & what could be called 'friemies' is revealed that is clever & emotionally real while not being sentimental

Is it possible to read a novel about the working class and/or working poor that doesn't in some way slide into stale ideologies or crass sentimentality? I do think so. Perhaps, Meyers does as well.

Ever so slowly, the literary world begins to embrace (re-embrace?) the zombie as a meaningful societal metaphor and thereby making it more precise and legitimate. Kudos to Jane Austen for having the foresight and to Seth Grahame-Smith for bring it to our collective attention.
