I started and finished A Sense of Direction in one evening; I couldn't really stop thinking about it, so I couldn't put it down. I found it...

I noticed that many people on Goodreads didn't like this book because the theme of a utopian society was the same theme as in other books like "The Giver." However, what book isn't a re-make? (By the way, the first book I read with this theme was Huxley's "A Brave New World" which predates "The Giver" by 20 years).
I thought that "Matched" treated this theme in a very refreshing way. What freedoms are we willing to give up in pursuit of the "perfect" society? Since 9/11, many of our basic individual rights have been curtailed or eliminated in order to "protect" us. But through this book, we can see how far this can be taken and ultimately what price we all pay.
In the way of all good science fiction stories, this book presents issues we face today in a novel and entertaining setting making the reader re-think our own conclusions about acceptable and not.
I really enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting the second in the trilogy.

I was prepared for another so-so cat book which was mostly about the author and not the cat. Boy, was I surprised! While this book explores the author's life's ups and downs, the focus of the book is about the wonderful cat Homer and what he teached the author (and all of us) about dealing with challenges and living up to your potential. I was truly inspired and loved every page. In fact, I bought two more copies to give to friends. If you're looking for an uplifting, inspirational story, then get this book!
