Deeply rooted in British Isles folk traditions and folk music, Moonwise is like nothing else in literature. In a work that’s less of a novel than one long lyric prose poem, Gilman takes us between worlds, explores the boundaries between reality and imagination, and gives us a quest like none other. If James Joyce, Ursula K. leGuin and Neil Gaiman had collaborated on a novel about Narnia, the result might have been something like Moonwise. Never a quick read, but a deeply rewarding one, this is a book that demands - and deserves - your full attention.
Powell's City of Books is an independent bookstore in Portland, Oregon, that fills a whole city block with more than a million new, used, and out of print books. Shop those shelves — plus literally millions more books, DVDs, and eBooks — here at Powells.com.
