Written as a memoir by a Navajo, later found out to be false, this book still should be read. Although not a "memoir" - you may view it as fiction, this book is still beautifully written and should be read. Not many contemporary books out there are about the Navajos or reservation life. Open your eyes and mind, forget the controversy surrounding the author and read a lovely piece of work.

Ok, so if you read Flowers in the Attic, read this!! If not go out and read it then proceed with Garden of Shadows. But DO NOT read this before Flowers in the attic!!! This will change your prospective and depending which you read first, change your view on the story of this family with many secrets. The Dollanger Series starts with Flowers and ends with Garden.
With only two young adult/kids books under his belt, Hiaasen brings his wacky offbeat characters with a pro environment flair and anti new construction to a younger generation. I went to see him at a speaking engagement once for the other kids book Flush, and he was amazed at how many kids were there as he stated his other writings should be held off for reading til his crowd was a little bit older. As with any Hiaasen book, the bad guys will always get what they deserve and the good guys win and something strange will happen that will make you shake your head.

A story to make you think of who your five people in heaven are and how you've impacted others in your everyday life without knowing it. If the final revelation by Eddies fifth person doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you must be a heartless cold person. The movie was good and faithful to the book, but reading the book is way better as it plays out in your head and imagination.

Along with 'Dracula Prince of Many Faces His Life and His Times' by the same authors, this book will give an insight to the person we know as Dracula. Must read for any history or vampire/goth fan.
