52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday: And Why the Truth Is so Much Better by Steve McVey
52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday: And Why the Truth Is so Much Better

dmarshall_baoding, March 7, 2012

This is the best book I've read on how to blast American cultural "Christian-ese" out of your vocabulary. Check out the chapter titles and begin to wonder. Then, no matter what your background or experience, Christian or not, pick up a copy of this small volume and truly begin to understand why so many people are messed up by churchy jargon. I've begun to find out the real facts which are giving me a lot to think about, and in a much more compassionate and less legalistic way. Somewhat critical, very thought provoking, I think everyone can enjoy this read.

The Heir of Night. by Helen Lowe by Helen Lowe
The Heir of Night. by Helen Lowe

This kind of speculative fiction holds my attention because it builds the world sufficiently for me to see the space and then launches into the characters so that I identify with them, the good and the not so good. We meet the main character, coming-of-age in in the massive stone castle where her family has grown up. She is aware of power conflicts but not directly involved, til now. She is the heir in a kingdom that is connected to those around it by history, family, and war. She is finding her powers (yes, wonderfully tangible magic) and learning how and why to control them. I loved her world of dark fortresses, bright and far lands to explore, and friends to be made and kept both from her own realm and intersecting realms. I couldnt put it down, and look forward to the next book in what I hope is a long series.

Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener's Handbook: Perfectly Timed Gardening for Your Most Bountiful Harvest Ever

When a title promises to hold my hand week by week, guide my journaling, and the outcome is not only better than I've done (which was very poorly) but "the most bountiful harvest ever", I'm in for the adventure.
