I love the characters and the personal interactions. Using the real personal letters of Melville's to Hawthorne in my opinion adds to the intrigue. The language is rich. I have come across vocabulary that I know but hear only rarely, and some I had to look up. One thing holding me back with my reading is that I am reading one of the advance reader copies that I purchased this summer from the basement of The Strand bookstore in NYC. The errors and typos slow me down because of course I had to check out a copy from the library and check to make sure they were all caught!
