Leni Zumas's writing crackles. Her books are sharp, bleak, funny, and possibly dangerous. When her collection of short stories, Farewell Navigator,...

I love this series, and I think that this first novel is my favorite. These mysteries have the sadness of a past stained by war, and yet it makes the character stronger. This is a cute story about a very strong woman who wishes to help people. She's not just a detective, she cares about who she works for and sympathizes with them. I loved all of the characters in this book and the setting was cute. The history behind the characters is also fantastic and I love how it weaves in between past and present. It's an intriguing story, but also quaint with a god ending. I recommend to anyone that enjoys a warm story and good characters.
I loved this book for many reasons. It was unique in the fact that it wove amazing old photographs into the story, and it had such a beautiful element of magic! The story was so interesting that I could barely put it down. The main character, Jacob, was a good, personable character that goes to a mysterious island near england. He is trying to find out about his grandfather's past, who recently died, and must solve the mystery of his last words. The island is enchanting and seems like a perfect secluded spot. The time that the author took to talk about the past and the reasons for everything makes the story even more magical. I loved every character in this book with their strange gifts and pictures! It's a beautiful story, and I hope that there will be a sequel.
This is an amazing mystery book! It takes place just before WWI and i about a man that finds out a terrible secret that will make WWI
be a disaster. He must run for his life and hide out in the country. Along the way, he meets great characters, such as a lazy farmer, a politician trying to get elected, and a creepy owl-eyed enemy. Each chapter has a new adventure to be encountered, and there are small bits of comedy that make it an excellent story. Anyone that likes classic adventure or mystery will love this intriguing story. It's a short read, but packed with adventure, and I couldn't put it down. I recommend it to everyone!
I love this entire series, and this is the latest book. Becky Brandon is so relatable and funny! Everything that happens to her makes you laugh, and it's a great light read. In this one, she is trying to cope with being a mother, and a problem happens at the bank where her husband works. I love that she tries so hard to make things right and has such good intentions, but everything goes wrong. The ending is perfect and it's a heartwarming story. I hope that this author writes more stories about the Brandon family!
Each of these mysteries is well-spun and enjoyable. This book is perfect for fans of Hercule Poirot, and each new story is completely different, with new, interesting characters and twisting plots. I liked that they were each short stories, a style that is not usual found in Poirot stories. I was able to breeze through them, and ended up staying up late more than once wanting to finish the story I was on! I love the way that Agatha Christie, including the time period, hint of comedy, and lovable detective. Poirot is definitely my favorite character she has created. It's no wonder that she is the Queen of Mystery, because her tales of stolen government documents, an apparent suicide, a small love affair, and the clues hidden in a shattered mirror and bed of flowers weaves such amazing mysteries that you be able to picture everything as clearly as if you were there.
