Sea of Hooks by Lindsay Hill
Sea of Hooks

elaineh, May 7, 2014

I don't even know where to begin in describing this book, but I knew from the outset that I wanted it to last a long, long time. The Sea of Hooks is written in the form of small snippets of information, not unlike the 'messengers' that the main character, Christopher, finds along the various pathways he walks. These messengers, little bits of discarded paper and other items, have a deeper meaning for this little boy and help him to assemble a fragmented, mysterious life that he leads. And somehow, even though the small bits of the story that we are presented with seem disconnected, they paint a whole picture of a young boy, his dysfunctional family, his unusual and sometimes abusive upbringing, and the spiritual journey that he takes into young adulthood. A very interesting book, and one that I would recommend highly. It will make you aware of the messengers that we all encounter along the way.

Carry the One by Carol Anshaw
Carry the One

Loved this book! The 'drama' occurs in the first part of the book, and the remainder details the lives of everyone involved - how the spin out of control, the directions they take. It's a wonderful telling of the aftermath of a car accident/fatality.

This book was a detailed view into the workings of a dysfunctional family and friends in the aftermath of a car accident and resulting death. Not particularly a 'happy ending' book, but a worthwhile read. The accident happens early on, and the book follows the evolution of the lives of the people involved. The characters are nicely developed and the plot is solid. Highly recommended!

The Complete Cook's Country TV Show Book: Every Recipe, Every Ingredient Testing, and Every Equipment Rating from the Hit TV Show

elaineh, August 29, 2012

While I can't yet comment on a cookbook that is due to be released in several days, I can say that my luck with their other books/recipes has been, overall, excellent. Their recipes are tested over and over and over, and when I actually follow each of their steps, my results are good - and repeatable! I'm not going to say that I've liked every recipe that they've published, but I trust their work enough to give them a try. I'm really looking forward to this new release!
