Broken Harbor by Tana French
Broken Harbor

Tana French blurs the lines between genres with this police procedural that could also be described as literary fiction. The suspense gets thicker the further you read, and when the answers are finally revealed, you won't be able to stop turning the pages. Get ready for some sleepless nights until you finish this one.

The Radleys by Matt Haig
The Radleys

On the surface, this is a story (with very short chapters) about two vampire parents in an English village trying NOT to be vampires and to raise "normal" children -- that is, until something goes horribly wrong and they are forced to confront their true natures. Yet it deals with the deeper themes of self-acceptance, the human need to fit in, the struggle to grow up, and the nature of love. It's a quick, fun read that will resonate with nearly everyone, even those who aren't fans of the vampire genre.
