This is one of the most compelling books I've read in a long time. I loved how the past was intertwined with the present to slowly reveal the motivation behind Mary's actions. The reviewers weren't kidding when they said you would want to read this book twice. At the end, I sighed in complete contentment with the story, yet was ready to read it again immediately to more completely appreciate the prose.
