Why Doesn't My Doctor Know This?: Conquering Irritable Bowel Syndromne, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Crohn's Disease and Colitis by David Dahlman
Why Doesn't My Doctor Know This?: Conquering Irritable Bowel Syndromne, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Crohn's Disease and Colitis

I'd rank this as one of my best books of the decade because with Dr. Dahlman's advice, I've cured myself of Irritable Bowel Syndrome -- which I've suffered from for most of the decade.

It took a very long time to get an accurate diagnosis and rule out other conditions. It's taken reading this book and just a few short months on its plan to knock out ALL of my symptoms. All this time, traditional Western failed me. I was tired of being prescribed various medications, only to have them fail to give me any relief, make my problems worse, or have side effects which were equally or more debilitating than the IBS. Even worse were the doctors who didn't seem to believe that I had a problem or tell me to take anti-anxiety or anti-depression medications. Dr. Dahlman points out the error of much of traditional treatment plans.

I've long thought that diet and supplementation were the key to healing my "leaky gut" and all its annoying symptoms. In just the first few weeks I was feeling better, and now I'm at the stage where I'm adding back in foods that I had eliminated on the plan and finding that I can now tolerate them.

Though a skeptic at first, what Dr. Dahlman says in his book made sense to me right away. The book is easy to read, and the plan is easy to follow (with a little self-discipline). And it works!

I highly recommend it. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is for the sort of amatuerish way the book is laid out. The information is wonderful.

This book is a MUST HAVE for new parents!

Like all the editions before it, "Baby Bargains, 7th Edition" will help you decide what baby gear you should have new, what could be purchased second-hand or borrowed, and what isn't really necessary (or might be a waste of your money). It also helps you evaluate which features of a particular baby item will suit your needs the best -- like what to look for when choosing a stroller or crib.

Why buy the new edition? Because Denise Fields lists so much specific information (like ratings and prices for current car seat models, recalls and safety issues, 800 numbers for manufacturers, websites to bargain baby outlets, etc.) that it's worth it to have the most recent revision. Our family has bought a current edition of this book for every one of our pregnancies. We've also given it as a great baby shower gift.

Be smart. Use this book as the wonderful tool it's meant to be.
