The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter
The Education of Little Tree

This story had me chuckling and sniffling - for all that is best and worst in humankind. It made me glad to have roots that resembled those of Little Tree - family ties that were knotted in love. As any truly great story does, this one illumined parts of my own life in new ways.

Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman
Odd and the Frost Giants

an imaginative expansion on Norse folklore - with Odd, the protagonist, who is a hero for the underdog. I love Neil Gaiman's stories, whether for adults or children.

Night Watch: A Discworld Novel (Discworld Novels) by Terry Pratchett
Night Watch: A Discworld Novel (Discworld Novels)

This story hits on so many levels - dark humor, despair, victory, life and death delivered as only Terry Pratchett can. Every time I read it, I pick out something new.

Night Watch: A Discworld Novel (Discworld Novels) by Terry Pratchett
Night Watch: A Discworld Novel (Discworld Novels)

goodbug73, February 25, 2008

This book hits on so many different themes - duty to society, family, friends. It is my favorite by Terry Pratchett and gives an inkling as to why Veterans take anniversaries so seriously - they did the job they didn't have to do.

Caravans by James A Michener
Caravans

goodbug73, February 1, 2008

It was interesting to read this book now in 2008 and see how much or little has changed in today's Afghanistan. It seems humans like to fight the same battles over and over again.
