This book hits on so many different themes - duty to society, family, friends. It is my favorite by Terry Pratchett and gives an inkling as to why Veterans take anniversaries so seriously - they did the job they didn't have to do.

It was interesting to read this book now in 2008 and see how much or little has changed in today's Afghanistan. It seems humans like to fight the same battles over and over again.
