Planet of the Blind by Stephen Kuusisto
Planet of the Blind

This is a gorgeous book! It reads like a poem, begging to be read aloud. Gives an understanding of how it might be to be blind, but more so, how alike we all are -- sighted and non-sighted. I have read this book 4 times, and will read it again. Can't get enough of the beautiful poetry of the words.

Listen to this, as he describes being in a crowd with his guide dog: "We don't know where we are, and though the world is dangerous, it's also haunting in its beauty. Even to a lost man with a speck of something like seeing, this minute here, just standing, taking in the air as a living circus, this is what tears of joy are for."

For me, tears of joy are for having discovered this book! Read it! Read it!
