I had the bad experience that I really didn't like the two movies I saw, which put me off reading the books for a long time. But I have to say the books are so much better, because you get so much more depth to the characters. You feel closer to them because a book is intimate, not just another huge special effects blockbuster, hollywood style. The books have soul! And this is where it all started.
