Cassell's Concise Latin and English Dictionary,
published by the Macmillan Publishing Company, is a great dictionary for Latin geeks at all levels of the language. In a new paperback, it is a good buy at $4.95. If you buy it used from Powell's, it is a steal!
At the book's beginning, there is a comprehensive reference section written in plain English that includes a pronunciation key, grammar guide, cultural notes and a list of abbreviations. This section is very helpful. The "Structure of Entries" and the "List of Abbreviations" are the key to understanding each entry. There are lists included in the dictionary that are sometimes left out of Latin textbooks, such as Roman numerals and major Roman writers. Cassell's Concise Latin and English Dictionary is the only Latin dictionary you'll ever need. Finis.
The AP Stylebook, especially the spiral bound version, is easy to use, and is THE best reference book if you write for the media. This book is written very well. I buy it every year.
