Maria Semple manages to take a family on the verge of collapse and make it a funny, pleasant, entertaining read.

Michael Palin Diaries 1969-1979: The Python Years by Michael Palin
Michael Palin Diaries 1969-1979: The Python Years

jksoutheast, January 1, 2012

From his diaries, it appears that the Michael Palin that you see on his various travel shows is the real Michael Palin - curious, genuinely nice, and pleasant to be with. Reading this book, paying attention to the dates, and reliving the 1970's through someone else's eyes is great fun. The only thing I would have liked more would have been to read about his creative process, and how one goes about creating funny material - but hey, it's his diary, and not ruminations on humor.
