This is the cookbook for food lovers who are health and taste concious. Every recipe used quality ingredients while providing the cook with nutritional information essential for those who are concerned about nutritional values. I am a weight watchers follower and found this book just right for creating recipes with my eating concerns in mind. I especially like the recipe for low fat muffins. YUM!
I had never heard of Juana, Queen of Castile, until I read this book. Even though I have read many books about royalty of this period.
Gortner presents a very sympathetic view of this sad life. His descriptions of the dress, locations and mores brings these elements to life.
A very good read for europhiles as well as those who seek a better understanding of the plight of women throughout history.
The author tells a wonderfully colorful tale of a young woman's search for independence in a world of male dominence. The production of oriental carpets was one of child labor and abuses. I will look at those amazing works of art with a different eye.
Yet another story of how women throughout history have not only survived but excelled against all odds. I want to believe that Pope Joan did exist and gave other women strength to reach their dreams as well.
A great book.

This book is for the football fan, italiaphile and food lover. Being two of the three I tolerated the football talk. It is a quick read, good for a plane ride.
